Deptford Park: Residents continue the struggle

4.3.05:
Local residents have besieged London & Quadrant's headquarter to protest against Quadrant's plans to build a housing complex in Deptford Park.
The protesters gathered on Friday in front of the housing trust's headquarters in Osborn Terrace (Lee Green). With megaphone and leaflets they expressed their anger about the "outrageous" plans. Deptford Park Residents's Association (D.P.R.A.), supported by socialist politicians Ian Page, Chris Moore and Chris Flood, managed to send a delegation to meet a representative of London & Quadrant. "Apart from minor amendments, the housing trust wants to go ahead with the plans.", so D.P.R.A. chairman Justin Dowd after the 30 minutes meeting. However, the parties have agreed to meet up again.

The residents have renewed their determination to keep on struggling for the preservation of their local park. As reported, Lewisham Council wants to sell the north end of Deptford Park in New Cross to the housing trust (read article). If the trust's plans were realised, this part of the park would be transformed into a 4 storey housing complex with carpark and access road to the park. D.P.R.A has collected more than 2100 signatures to stop the plans (www.deptfordpark.com)
